Theodore "Thed" May's Life Review
March 2-1907 to December 24, 2003
Delhi, Louisiana. He was the second of four sons born to the union of Thomas May and Minnie Morris. His brother were: Olgiven, John and Warren. Theodore accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal savior as a young man. He was baptized at New Fellowship Baptist Church in Delhi. He attended Richland Parish Training School, graduating at the completion of the 11th grade which was the highest grade offered. He went on to complete one year of college. He was known to have taught reading and writing to other students in Delhi.
In 1938, Theodore joined the army and also married Jessie Claiborne and from this union, his son, John Edward was born in 1939. The marriage ended in divorce in 1950. A second marriage to Walena Oneal, ended with her death. Theodore's Army career spand 23 years with tours of duty in Germany, Japan and England. Thed retired in 1961, living in Oakland, California for a few months then, moving to Los Angeles, California. All who knew Thed will remember him as a man who had a warm smile and generous heat. He was very proud of all the family ties he maintained. Whenever anyone wanted to know anything about the May Family, Thed was a good source of information.
He loved his family and was proud of the accomplishment the family as a whole has made. He also loved attending "May Family Reunions" enjoying the respect as an Elder MAY. After five or six years of poor health, Thed went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2003.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son, John Edward and daughter-in-law, Rose. Two grandsons: Dwayne and Darrin May, one granddaughter, Melaine May-Johnson and husband, JaHarvey. Great grandson, Kyri Johnson. Nephews: John Whatley(wife Jewel), Warren May Jr.(wife Marlene); Niece, Gwendolyn May-Gooch and husband Thomas. Grandnephew, Dr. Gray May and wife Leschell & Grandniece, Angela May along with great-grandnieces and nephews a host of cousins, lead by Masilline Marshall, who lived next door to Thed for a number of years providing for him encouragement and good food, until his death.
